HUD FHA Design Manual Requirement 5 (Chapter Five)Description
Light switches, electrical outlets, thermostats, and other environmental controls must be in accessible locations. Reach ranges: 15 inches minimum to 48 inches maximum above the floor for both forward and side reach to operable controls.
Why this exists
Reach-range provision from ANSI A117.1-1986 §4.2. Brings switches/outlets into the operable zone for seated occupants.
